my short “vacation trip” explained

just to humor myself, because yesterday i spent a good portion of miss e’s nap time and then some more trying to right this wrong.

my email got hacked and this rather convincing message got sent to all my email contacts.  there were a lot of components that looked pretty legit.  in the “from” section of the heading is my correct name and email address, and they even signed the letter off with my correct name!

but here’s why this letter is not from me:

Hi (i would at least address the persons or say “everyone”), I’m writing this with great grievance (that already smacks of letter writing faux pas). I’m presently in (London) United Kingdom (i really wish that was the case) with my Family (my family’s important, but i wouldn’t capitalize it, not even in dire situations) for a short vacation and we’re stuck right now…And really it was unannounced (that’s just not how we work–do things unannounced–for better or for worse). We were attacked by four armed robbers on our way back to the hotel where we lodged.we were robbed and completely embarrassed (no, i wouldn’t feel embarrassed. i got pick-pocketed in spain before so i know how it feels (albeit not armed robbery), and believe me it’s not embarrassed, but i’d like to keep my blog rated-g), thank God they didn’t hurt anyone or take our passports (that’s true, thank the Lord). Right now we are in a financial mess (owing $2871.85 is a lot of money, but it wouldn’t call it a “financial mess.” a financial mess is more like $28,718.50) due to unable to settle bills owed at the hotel.

All our cash, credit cards and cellphone (if you knew what kind of cell phones we have you’d know it’d never work internationally!  haha!  and since it was a “short vacation” we probably wouldn’t get a temporary cell phone either) were stolen. We’ve reported the incident to the embassy and the Police but to my dismay they seem not bothered…their response was just too casual (i really hope that wouldn’t be the case if something like this really did happen). Our flight leaves in few hours but We’ve got to settle our bills before We’re allowed to leave….Now am freaked out (i may say this, but i usally don’t write this)….Please i need you to loan me some money,i promise to refund you as soon as I’m back home, All i need is (£1,780 GBP) (i don’t even know where the “pound” key is located!) but don’t know how much you would be able to spare.. . Please Let me know what you can do. I await your positive response so i know how you can assist me at the moment. (because i still have time to sit by the computer that i am most likely paying by the minute–which means i still have some scant cash–at some internet cafe and wait for your reply, of then i will reply with an acct number where you can wire the money to.)

Thanks
Best Regards(no.)

and if you haven’t noticed, i’m lazy and i don’t always capitalize in my emails.  and in such a case, i would be panicking and probably wouldn’t bother to capitalize either.

along with sending out spam, everything in my sent box was deleted, and my entire contacts list was erased–just as well, if i get hacked in the next 48 hours there will be no one to spam again.

a friend pointed out that even though my from address was spelled correctly, the email in the reply had a slight misspelling (a switch of 2 letters) of my actual address.  so if you tried to reply to me to warn me about the spam…well, i didn’t receive it.  that’s a clever trick.

and the cherry on top…i spammed myself and sent my plea for help to another email account of mine because that’s how freaked out i was.

i did appreciate all the txts, correct emails, and phone calls i received.  even my dad called me.  he’s never called me in the afternoon.

DSC_0009we celebrated 2 birthdays last week, miss e’s and mdh.  but we kept things pretty low key and inexpensive, because we are expecting that miss e will ask for a birthday party in the future once she discovers what they are!  this square has nothing to do with the birthdays.  i just felt like using a button, some beads, and trying a new chain stitch (orange thread).

after school i took miss e to pick out a metallic balloon that she so enjoys staring at every time we’re at the grocery store.  she usually lingers at the balloon rack for a long time, looking slowly through all the different balloons.  oddly enough, this time when i told her we were going to buy one for her birthday she picked a balloon out in 2 seconds.  (maybe all those previous times spent at the balloon rack was to decide which balloon to pick if she could get one.)  i tried showing her some other ones like buzz, pooh, or mcqueen but she was set on piglet. she definitely made up her mind.  and then she asked me, “what about baba?”  oh right, on the way to the store i was telling her that she and baba had the same birth day…so we picked one for baba too!

it doesn’t matter that the balloon says “congrats!”

dear accommodating neighbors,

sorry for the recent increase of dandelions in your yard.  my daughter has discovered the joy of blowing dandelions.  i do try to limit her to 3 dandelions on our walks to and back from school, but sometimes she’s too fast and sneaks in an extra one or two.  i would offer to help weed your lawn, but seeing how i haven’t been able to keep up with weeding our own lawn i can only hope you would accept my sincerest apologies.

your neighbor down the street,

miss e’s mom

DSC_0002today i received a delightful email telling me that i am a winner of a drawing!  i’ve never won a drawing or raffle or lottery before in my entire life!  (and i know for certain that it’s not a scam/spam.)  however, i won’t divulge too much detail of what it is until i receive the prize–because with my kind of luck i’m almost half expecting it to be a mistake.  stay tuned…

and while i was sewing my square miss e got her lacing cards and told me that she was sewing boogie, brown bear, baba, and pooh bear’s pants.  afterwards she showed me her finished result!  i was quite impressed she figured out how to thread the string up and down through every other hole.  just last month she was still having difficulty figuring out how to “sew” her animal cards.  but the threading on the back isn’t quite as neat as the front. 😉
